Today is "Gotcha Day", the day we commemorate DD moving in with us as a foster child. It's been 11 years now. We also celebrate Adoption Day, the anniversary of the day we legally became a "real" family. Gotcha Day causes mixed emotions, since it's a strong reminder of the dysfunction of her biological family so we try to keep it pretty low key. This year daughter, doglet and I took advantage of the mild temps and relatively sunny afternoon and visited a local park.
It's lovely to see the ice breaking up and melting. Darcy nearly drug us all into the water, she's so anxious for a true (i.e. wet) lake outing. Funny how something as insubstantial as a bit of water plant can radiate enough heat to speed up the melting around it.
We saw several crayfish exoskeletons like this in the shallows along the banks.
